Growing up in a culture where custom-made clothing seemed to be the norm, designer Sahar Dada, began to notice all of the intricate details that go into making a garment. She started out by creating pieces for friends as an extension of her mother’s growing business and realized she was providing something that was missing in the market. So the next step that made most sense was to attend design school, having attended The Illinois Institute of Art as a fashion marketing major and taking part in shows held in Chicago, She decided her true passion was for design, which led her to start her own label. Her South Asian influence definitely is what sets her apart. Incorporating her roots into her pieces, whether it is using rich fabrics, vibrant colors, or adding embroideries and embellishments.
“My signature would have to be my use of fluidity and fabric, I tend to create pieces that have movement and that is recognizable as a “Sahar Dada” piece.“
In the summer of 2006 Sahar produced her first collection and over the years has built a vast clientele in her hometown of Chicago.
Sahar was chosen to represent Lahore, Pakistan at World Fashion Chicago 2009 and showcase pieces from her Sahar Dada East line. It was at that moment where she decided to shift her focus and pursue her dream of designing a western inspired clothing line.
Knowing she could make women feel unique and beautiful Sahar launched her first collection six months later on March 10th 2010. She partnered with her good friend and fellow artist Misa Verbeek and organized a benefit for Ronald McDonald House Charities – CNI. The Gold Rush Benefit combined both art and fashion had a lasting effect on the 400 attendees. Sahar showcased a 52-piece collection ranging from cocktail dresses to elegant gowns. Cover Chicago TV, Michigan Ave Magazine, Factio Magazine and blogs such as A Chicago Thing, Second City Style and Beauty and the Feast provided event coverage for the show.
Her efforts have led her to being selected as an Associate Designer with Macy’s Chicago Fashion Incubator during the 2011 and 2012 residency.
Currently, she is working on a Couture Bridesmaid Collection in Collaboration with Drish Couture Events. It is set to Launch in Spring 2013.
“I have the ability to do what I enjoy every day, not many people can say that! Creating garments that make someone feel beautiful or unique is the biggest reward and that is exactly why I enjoy designing so much!” Sahar Dada
